A prop firm payout is the transfer of part of the profit made on a funded account to the trader. You request it from your dashboard, the firm reviews it, and a third-party payment provider sends the money to a bank account or wallet in your name. Between the request and the deposit, three parties are involved, and each one has its own delays and checks.
This page does not cover payout eligibility (qualifying days, minimums, caps). It covers what happens afterwards: the path the money takes.
Why the payout pipeline matters
Your first payout is almost always the slowest, for a simple reason: at both Apex and Tradeify, the account with the payment provider only opens after your first request is approved. The invitation email arrives at that point, not before. Nothing can be set up in advance except your documents. The broader framework is covered in our guide to prop firm rules.
Three firms, three pipelines
| Firm | Provider for traders outside the US | Published timelines |
|---|---|---|
| Apex | Plane, to a local bank account | Review within 2 business days, funds sent within 3 to 4 days, bank processing 3 to 7 days: 5 to 11 business days in total for most traders |
| Tradeify | Rise by default, Plane only when Rise is not possible | Funds in the Rise wallet within 24 to 48 hours of approval, then 1 to 3 business days to a bank, a few hours in crypto |
| Topstep | International wire (Wire/SWIFT), Wise for China, Canada and the UK | Internal approval of 1 to 3 business days, then 5 to 10 business days by international wire |
Two details in this table change day-to-day reality. At Tradeify, Plane is not a preference: the firm states that Plane is only offered when Rise cannot be used, because of country restrictions or a denied application, and its bank-to-bank transfer can take up to 7 days. At Topstep, an international wire costs 30 USD per request, while Wise carries no Topstep fee but has only been available in three countries since it returned in August 2026. US traders have more options at Topstep, including ACH, Aeropay and same-day transfers to a Topstep Brokerage account.
Step by step
1. Request and review
The request starts in the firm's dashboard. Review time is counted in business days, excluding weekends and holidays.
2. Opening the provider account
This is where most first payouts stall. At Apex, the Plane invitation arrives 1 to 4 business days after approval. At Tradeify, signing up with Rise requires a government ID, a live selfie and a tax ID, with automated verification in most cases and a 1 to 3 business day manual review otherwise.
Then comes the step Tradeify's own documentation flags as mandatory: joining the "Tradeify Holdings, Corp" team from the "Action Items" tab inside Rise. The firm is explicit: without accepting that team invitation, you cannot receive payouts.
3. Withdrawing to your bank
At Tradeify, the money lands in your Rise wallet first, and you then request a withdrawal to a bank, a local currency or a crypto wallet. There is no direct transfer from the firm to your bank. At Apex, Plane pays straight into the linked bank account.
Three checks that get a payout rejected
- Bank country. Apex is unambiguous: your bank account must be in the same country as your declared residency, or the request is rejected. The official example is a Spanish resident, who needs a bank account in Spain.
- Name. Apex asks for your legal first and last name as it appears on your profile, without special characters. Rise requires the exact name on your ID, does not accept nicknames, and states that payouts must go to an account in your name.
- Email address. Apex and Tradeify require the same email with the provider as on your firm account, and Topstep does the same for Wise. A mismatch leaves the invitation unclaimed.
Personal name or company
The firms differ here. Tradeify officially allows payouts to a company or LLC through a KYB (Know Your Business) verification done at payout time, not at signup. It asks for incorporation documents, proof of ownership and a government ID for every owner of 25% or more. Topstep requires funded accounts in your individual legal name and only lets US single-member LLCs receive payouts. Apex builds its form around an individual and a local bank account.
The classic mistake
Treating a payout as cash available on the day you request it. Between approval, provider onboarding and bank processing, published timelines are counted in business days, and the first transfer stacks every step at once. Planning an expense around your request date means building your cash flow on a delay none of the three firms guarantees.
What a payout does not tell you
- It does not settle your taxes. Apex and Topstep issue no tax forms to non-US traders and both point to the laws of your country and a qualified tax advisor. This page gives no tax advice: how a payout is treated is a question for a professional in your jurisdiction.
- It does not tell you how much you will receive. Caps, profit splits and transfer fees depend on the firm and the account. Tradeify's caps, for example, changed on September 1, 2026, as covered in our article on Tradeify payout caps.
- It does not mean you qualify. The pipeline only starts once a request is accepted. Apex's conditions are covered in our article on the Apex safety net and payouts.
FAQ
What is a prop firm payout?
It is the transfer of part of the profit made on a funded account. The trader requests it, the firm reviews it, and a payment provider sends the money to an account in the trader's name.
How long does a prop firm payout take?
Based on published timelines: 5 to 11 business days for most traders at Apex; 24 to 48 hours to the Rise wallet, then 1 to 3 business days to a bank at Tradeify; and 5 to 10 business days by international wire at Topstep after a 1 to 3 day approval. The first payout takes longest because it includes opening the provider account.
Can I receive a payout to a bank account in another country?
Not at Apex: the bank account must be in your declared country of residence, or the request is rejected. For other firms, check their help center before your first request.
